The Small Farms Challenge

An opportunity to dream SMALL! 

This hopeful book is the second to come out of Southwest Manitoba farming country. In their first book ‘Successful Small Farms in Southwest Manitoba’, the Turtle Mountain Community Development Corporation interviewed 20 smaller scale farmers in the area. They wanted to re-establish the belief that in this age of ‘get bigger or bust’ export agriculture, smaller scale farming geared towards local markets is possible and fulfilling. 

In their second book, ‘The Small Farms Challenge’, they go on to establish that there are visionaries in and around the farming world who have innovative ideas for small farms that are socially, environmentally, and economically viable. They inspire the belief that rural communities can fashion themselves as places of beauty, offering unparalleled quality of life with vibrant economies open to the involvement of creative, land-loving souls. The book also includes seven “Making Space” articles, which explore repopulation strategies and potentials for rural communities.
