Our Network and Working Groups

Under the guidance of the Community Liaison, FMM nurtures the following food security networks and working groups across the province.  These networks and working groups bring individuals and organizations together to collectively and collaboratively work towards greater food security for themselves and their communities.  At meetings and events they connect, communicate, showcase their projects, share resources, and work to effect change.

Some of these networks and working groups include:

Manitoba Food Security Network

The Manitoba Food Security Network is a group, hosted by Food Matters Manitoba, which meets twice annually and serves as a forum for people from across the province who are working towards greater food security to connect, communicate, showcase their projects, and share resources.

North End Food Security Network

The North End Food Security Network has been meeting since fall of 2007 in an effort to share information and resources. Participants have included representatives from the North Point Douglas Residents Association, the William Whyte Residents Association, the North End Community Renewal Corporation, Aboriginal Visioning for the North End, the Chronic Disease Prevention Initiative, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Manitoba Food Charter.

The group has compiled an inventory of food security activities taking place in the North End. The inventory features locations and contact information for community gardens, community kitchens, cooking programs, other food or meal programs, community cupboards, and programming for youth, parents with children, and seniors. Due to privacy concerns, food banks and emergency food programs will not be listed. Those needing help in this way should register directly with Winnipeg Harvest.  The inventory remains a work in progress, and we encourage you to suggest additional resources, programs or corrections.

North End Food Security Inventory

In May 2009, a coordinator for NEFSN was hired and housed with North End Community Renewal Corporation. Her role is to support the development of community gardens, help to organze workshops in food skills and traditional foods, and respond to community based food ideas.
