Achieving Healthier Weights in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The Our Food, Our Health, Our Culture project will involve 300 families, 20 agencies, 2 schools and 7 retail stores in
- Increasing access to healthy and culturally appropriate foods;
- Increasing access to food literacy; and
- Identify government, school, agency, and household policies to reduce incidence of obesity.
The project emerged out community identified needs and is part of a one year obesity prevention strategy funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada and uses a participatory, population health approach.
The project is coordinated by Food Matters Manitoba with co-applicants the University of Manitoba Faculty of Human Ecology and the following partner sites
- Winnipeg’s North End (The North End Community Renewal Corporation);
- Fox Lake First Nation, Manitoba;
- La Ronge, Saskatchewan (Food Secure Saskatchewan).
