Please make cheques payable to Food Matters Manitoba, Unit 4-640 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0X3

Here's how your support can give a gift that grows...

Eleven year-old Gerald Anderson is proud of his garden. This year he grew carrots and lettuce in a raised bed he helped build next to his house in Fox Lake. He's one of many young people working with Food Matters Manitoba to reclaim the skills of their grandparents to grow healthy food in Northern Manitoba.

Gardens like Gerald’s are one way to begin to address challenges facing Manitoba families such as:

  • In northern Manitoba communities healthy food remains unaffordable for many.  For example, a jug of milk can cost over $20, four times what it costs in Winnipeg.
  • Diabetes and other chronic diseases are increasingly common in Manitoba.  Diabetes alone costs the province nearly $500 million a year, 237 million for type II diabetes with rates projected to increase 47% by 2020.
  • People are losing the ability to cook healthy meals for their families - on average people spend only 18 minutes a day, for all three meals, cooking and washing up.

Studies show that every dollar spent on food programs can save up to ten dollars in healthcare costs.  Food Matters Manitoba is a driving force behind many positive initiatives that are doing just that. From northern and newcomer gardens to good food boxes in Winnipeg's North End, to top chefs partnering with local farmers and high school students, we're strengthening the vibrant and growing local food movement in our province. With donations of time and money from generous community members, we can help people like Gerald and Manitobans around the province access healthy food. You can read more about our successes here in our annual report.

In just 6 short years we have grown from a small group of volunteers working on the vision of the Manitoba Food Charter to an organization that is having tremendous impact. We've made efficient use of volunteer time, many talented interns and partners, and the valued contributions of our funders.

Should you choose to donate today, your gift of $25, $50, or $100 will help Food Matters Manitoba:

  • Grow new & traditional food skills and help families in Northern Manitoba access fresh foods
  • Assist  New Canadians and help all Manitobans share their food traditions
  • Help over 3000 Manitobans Dig In! to build healthy food skills, connect with local farmers, and learn about fair food so that everyone has access to healthy sustainable food at farm fair prices

This holiday season consider giving a gift that grows. Donate today!

Sincerely,

Kreesta Doucette
Executive Director

P.S.  The recent economic shifts have resulted in fewer funding dollars from granting organizations.
The future success of our programs will depend on donations from engaged Manitobans like you.
