Daniel Gladu Kanu

Daniel is an Anishinaabe, Irish and Metis person born in Fort Frances, Ontario and a member of Animakee Wa Zhing (Northwest Angle First Nation #37). As program manager and coordinator at Food Matters Manitoba, he has worked with dozens of food champions to build initiatives that help their communities to reclaim, access and share the foods that give them strength. He is a seasoned cook with ten years of experience, and a volunteer for other food initiatives in Manitoba. Before joining Food Matters Manitoba, he worked at the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources assisting First Nations across Canada on projects that protect their Indigenous foods, lands, and waters. He earned a BSc in biology from the University of Winnipeg. He lives with his family in Winnipeg where he tends to a garden and occasionally gets out on the land to catch fish and gather mushrooms.
