Each day for the month of December, we challenged people across Manitoba to give back to their communities, spend more time with friends, family and coworkers, and try new things. In partnership with a number of community organizations and businesses across Manitoba, the Giving Challenge encouraged community building, mindfulness, healthy living, and celebrating the holidays by sharing with others.
The giving challenge was a great way to end the year, as it also challenged our staff members to participate in a multitude of activities together. From decorating our desks with recycled paper snowflakes and sharing healthy snacks together at our “Jingle and Mingle in the office” event, to enjoying the Winnipeg winter wonderland on a brisk nature walk, we had the great pleasure of learning more about each other, sharing fun experiences (and recipes), and celebrating the holidays together.
Our favorite activity, however, was not a part of the giving challenge calendar, but was a great way to give back to the community as an organization. On Wednesday, December 21st, members of the Food Matters Manitoba team spent part of the morning at the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre of Winnipeg, wrapping gifts for their Annual Children’s Christmas Party. We were there along with volunteers from Church of the Rock to wrap more than 300 gifts for youth. This was a really fun event for our team to take part in, and it was a great way to give back to the community and show appreciation for our partnerships. We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to participate in more volunteering events in the future. The Giving Challenge was a fun and festive way to finish off 2016.
Here at Food Matters Manitoba, we would like to thank everyone who took the time to share, like, and participate in the 2016 Giving Challenge. We had a ton of fun and we hope you did too.
